Private Lessons in Portland Oregon
My main goal as a teacher is to help students understand the fundamentals of learning so they can grow as both an artist and a person. I view learning as a process of growth, like that which happens organically in nature. Just as plants need the right growing conditions, I prioritize providing a safe learning environment that is free of judgement, so students feel comfortable being themselves and inspired to improve their abilities.
“Our daughter, who is now a junior in high school, has been a student of Dr. Jamie Chimchirian for the last three years. She has been playing the violin since 4th grade and has had a few teachers before Jamie. However, Jamie is by far her best teacher. Dr. Chimchirian is an extremely skilled violinist who is a very dedicated teacher. She has helped developed within our daughter a deep passion for playing the violin. There is definitely a marked difference in our daughter's playing ability since she has come under Dr. Chimchirian's tutelage. Jamie is very organized in terms of scheduling lessons and annual recitals. We would highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about improving their violin playing abilities.” -Aneer
"We appreciate Jamie so much. She keeps a positive tone with our children while encouraging excellence in their work. We’re so thankful to have found her for our children’s musical instruction and can’t recommend her highly enough!" -Autumn

"Jamie is an excellent violin teacher. We've been with Jamie for the past two years, and during this short time, my daughter has made great progress, learning new techniques, and strengthening her previous music knowledge. We appreciate that Jamie played an important roll in my daughter's journey of discovering her musical talent by making it a great experience. I highly recommend Jamie to anyone."-Emma
"My daughters first started violin lessons in January 2019. We started violin basics from another teacher with a more traditional style. I asked for a teacher with energy and patience and was introduced to Jamie. She's been motivating, patient with my kids, and has encouraged exploration outside of the traditional Suzuki lessons for a well rounded approach. Now that we've been taking weekly lessons for about a year with Jamie, both daughters are happily learning traditional Suzuki songs, can read music, and are trying contemporary tunes. We really enjoy lessons with Jamie!" -Victoria
