ABOUT Poppy violin studio LLC


Poppy Violin Studio LLC is owned and operated by violinist and teacher, Jamie Chimchirian. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Jamie felt compelled to start her own teaching business focused on offering a comprehensive, organized and thoughtful approach to violin lessons. Comfortable teaching all ages and abilities, Jamie enjoys coming up with a personalized curriculum to fit each student's unique needs and goals. 

About Jamie:


Violinist Jamie Chimchirian is a passionate performer with ample experience as an ensemble musician and soloist. She is a tenured member of the Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra, and the Eugene Symphony Orchestra. She also performs regularly with the Oregon Music Festival, Portland Festival Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra and the Portland Opera. 
     Ms. Chimchirian earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Maryland in 2016, where she studied with James Stern and David Salness. In her Dissertation, Beethoven’s Violinists: The Influence of Clement, Viotti, and the French School on Beethoven’s Violin Compositions, she explores the stylistic connection between Beethoven’s violin compositions and select works of Franz Clement, Pierre Rode and Giovanni Battista Viotti. Ms. Chimchirian also holds a Master’s Degree from Boston University, where she studied with Bayla Keyes, and a Bachelor’s Degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania where she studied violin with Sylvia Ahramjian and voice with Emily Bullock.
     A passionate and devoted pedagogue, Ms. Chimchirian currently teaches violin at the Community Music Center in South East Portland. She is a regular clinician for Vancouver Public School District and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, and previously taught beginner violin and elementary orchestra in Lake Oswego School District. Before moving to Portland, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Maryland, where she worked with students pursuing a minor in violin performance. She is former violin faculty at the Levine School of Music and has frequently worked with the Montgomery County Youth Orchestra of Maryland as a strings coach in sectional rehearsals, outreach programs and summer camps. She is currently a member of the American String Teacher’s Association and is certified by the Suzuki Association of the Americas to teach Book One of the Suzuki Violin Method.
